"Blue Skies & Black Shoes" by Jason King Band (Blues Artist from Nevada(NV))

The latest album from the Jason King Band is "Blue Skies & Black Shoes." It is a superb compilation of bouncy and soulful contemporary Blues/Rock songs. "I'm Your Man" is a song with a frolicking blues sound that might just get you up and dancing. "Mean & Nasty" is a groovier and thicker blues song which features some amazingly passionate saxophone playing. "6 years gone" is a more leisurely and thoughtful blues song in which we can hear the talent within both King's voice and acoustic guitar playing. This album is a wonderful example of contemporary Blues/Rock music and contains a balance between heartfelt and playfully rambunctious tunes. If you are a fan of the Blues music of Stevie Ray Vaughan then you will enjoy "Blue Skies & Black Shoes" by the Jason King Band.

RadioIndy is pleased to present The Shaun Murphy Band with a GrIndie Award for the CD "Livin' the Blues "

RadioIndy is pleased to present The Shaun Murphy Band with a GrIndie Award for the CD "Livin' the Blues "

Highly accomplished vocalist and by far no stranger to the music scene, Shaun Murphy releases her instinctive, powerhouse of fabulous Blues on the CD, "Livin' The Blues." Murphy's vocals reach deep down inside capturing the true essence of these soulful and emotive Blues compositions. The passionate and burning vocals on "It Takes A Lot To Laugh, It Takes A Train To Cry" fuel the emotive lyrics with a rich and fervent style and grace. Not only does the title track, "Livin' The Blues" move with a strong, tight beat, the vocals are well balanced and supported by a solid cast of musicians. Power chords and building beats give "Rock And Roll Everynight" a vibrant and energetic vibe while Murphy takes the helm with her tough, vocal attitude. Make no mistake; "Livin' The Blues" packs a powerful punch of deep and soulful Blues steeped with Murphy's vocals as formidable and commanding as the great singers Etta James or Koko Taylor.

"aka Whiteboy Slim" by Whiteboy Slim (Blues Artist from Canada)

Whiteboy Slim knows the Blues. With a voice that channels the spirit of outsized legend, Howlin' Wolf, the harp skills (and tone) to rival Little Walter, the confidence to stretch the blues lexicon without betraying its artistic center, and a crack band that could've cut its teeth on the west side of Chicago, his CD, "aka Whiteboy Slim," is a living testament to the enduring legacy of the Chicago blues style. "It Ain't Art," opens the album with a defiant declaration of the bluesman's credo, funkifying the blues with roots-deep soul. Other standouts include "Cards on the Table," a terrific minor-key jam with fine Santana-like guitar work; "20% Alcohol," which impeccably mines an Howlin' Wolf-style groove; the jazz-inflected "It's Strange out There;" and the updated Muddy Waters nugget, "She's Into Something." Loud, gritty, raucus and down-&-dirty, "aka Whiteboy Slim" is a flat-out 14-track blues gem. And like fellow Canadian blues trailblazer, King Biscuit Boy, Whiteboy Slim's CD proves the blues ain't about where you're from, it's about who you are.

"Pale Rider" by Hitman Blues Band (Blues Artist from New York(NY))

The Hitman Blues Band spins out another fantastic album, "Pale Rider," that offers generous helpings of mostly original Blues/Rock compilations. The lead vocal impresses the listener with rootsy and melodic tonality while the instruments drive home a rush of rocking energy. You'll be hooked right from the first song, "Your Blues" with the dynamic beats and catchy lyrics. Another song, "Red Hook" runs full throttle as the guitar runs with maximum fury on the solo. Offering up a different sound, "Miss Catherine," shows off some nice horn hooks that interplays with the vocal and is a treasure of a song that displays a lively bouncy beat. The title track, "Pale Rider," is splashed with nice Hammond organ chords that compliment the razor sharp guitar lead. If you're a fan of Johnny Winter or just like some great Rocking Blues, then "Pale Rider," is just the album you'll want to hear.
