"Where We Never Grow Old" by Nancy Chancey (Blues Artist from Georgia(GA))

"Where We Never Grow Old" by Nancy Chancey is an impressive country rock album with elements of blues, folk, and Americana from a powerful and talented singer. Nancy's voice booms confidently through the bluesy guitars and big beats. Her strong vocals are similar to Sheryl Crow, Jewel, or Bonnie Raitt. She also shows you a world of depth in her songwriting ability. Though the album is mostly upbeat, she'll make you feel pain, empowerment, and joy alike throughout this musical journey. The arrangements and musicianship are very good, complementing Nancy's strong vocals very nicely. The recordings are nice and crisp with simple production, allowing the instruments and vocals to nicely cut through in the recording. Highlights include the opener "One Day at a Time," setting the table nicely with a catchy chorus and a great little blues riff. The title track, "Where We Never Grow Old," features a delicate flute intro, a noble guitar progression, and intimate vocals. "No Good Lovin" has another hot blues lick and a great vocal performance. If you enjoy female country vocalists nicely complimented with rock, folk, and the blues, take a listen to this excellent CD by Nancy Chancey.

"I Can't Live Like This" by Glenn Gordon (Blues Artist from Georgia(GA))

"I Can't Live Like This" is the debut single from Contemporary Jazz singer Glenn Gordon. The song is a snapshot of many different influences. The song features a nice mix of classic and modern Jazz styles, plus quite a bit of R&B flavor. Glenn's voice has some of the qualities of the great Soul singers and his delivery is passionate. The mood is very upbeat, as the song glides its way into your ears. It's one of those songs that brings a smile to your face within the first bar and you can't wipe it off until the last bar. Everything about this song is clear. The arrangement is fantastic. All of the instruments are very complementary to one another and the performances are great. The production quality is also very good - a very crisp recording and great final product. If you enjoy Teddy Pendergrass and Marvin Gaye, you'll enjoy this song.

"Quiet Town" by The Ground (Blues Artist from Ireland)

"Quiet Town" by The Ground is a conceptual experimental rock album. The musical story is based on a character named Andy whose life rapidly changes as he enters a life of drugs. The journey is a strange one for sure. You'll hear twisted blues elements combined with atmospheric sounds and dreamy female vocals. The arrangements push the envelope when it comes to bizarre. They are truly unique and creative. Highlights are the opener "Heart on Fire" with it's offbeat bluesy guitar riff, haunting vocals and overall tripping atmosphere. The title track "Quiet Town" has a nice vocal melody amidst a mish-mash of sounds. "Look at Life" wraps things up nicely with a bubbly beat and airy synths. If you enjoy experimental and unusual music or are tired of mainstream music, give this one a try.

"Concrete World and the Lover's Dream" by Anne Weiss (Blues Artist from Oregon(OR))

"Concrete World and the Lover's Dream" by Anne Weiss is a funk/blues solo female album with a poetic flair. Anne's voice is one of the more well known in Oregon and for good reason. She sings with her heart and soul. She possesses that great blues quality of grit and grace, and her lyrics are great life stories. Big name artists such as Janis Joplin and Tracy Chapman come to mind when listening to Anne's outstanding music. Anne's musical background is quite diverse and she brings that influence to the arrangements. Hints of urban and latin music are sprinkled throughout the CD, as well as a few other surprises. The band ties the sound together nicely, and are superior musicians. Highlights include "Special Delivery" with its assortment of sounds. You get great vocals, blues, street beats and Motown horns on this track. The title track "Concrete World and the Lover's Dream" makes "Blackbird" pop into your head in the beginning and then evolves into a dirge with a powerful message. Anne also does a real nice cover of Marvin Gaye's "What's Going On" on this CD. If you enjoy listening to outstanding songwriting and outstanding bluesy-rock female vocalists, give this CD a try.
